Savannah stole my heart 3 years ago when I met her through the work I do with CHOC - Children's Haematology Oncology Clinics - in South Africa. She was just 2 years old then and already had had a hard start to her life.
Savannah was diagnosed with leukaemia at the age of two. She was also born with Noonan's Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder which has affected her heart. Savannah is also hearing impaired.
Through The Dis-Chem Foundation, Savannah has been fitted with a set of hearing aids which now help her to hear better, although her speech is still not so good. Savannah has started attending St. Vincents School for the Deaf and is now learning to sign.
This little girl, despite her bi-monthly chemo sessions, numerous lumbar punctures and frequent trips to the hospital, always has a smile and a hug for me.
Today Savannah is considered in remission and our prayers are that she stays cancer-free. This precious child has so much living to do!
The design opposite is dedicated to Savannah. It is my representation of the good guys in her blood stream - the ones that keep her smiling!
